Potato flakes are such a fun play medium. Being edible, they are perfect for babies and toddlers. They allow them to explore safely, and there are TONS of ways to play with them too! This two ingredient potato paint is just one of the many play recipes we have created using fluffy potato flakes.

This potato paint is frugal, easy to make, and 100% safe for even the littlest of littles.
Potato Paint Play Recipe
- Potato flakes
- Food coloring
- Warm water
I love that this recipe only requires two ingredients (plus water). Any potato flakes will do. You can get generic varieties for under $1 a box, and you can make many batches of paint with a single box. Pour potato flakes into varying bowls, add a few drops of food coloring, and a touch of warm water
Slowly add more water until you have the desired consistency
Add more water for a runnier paint; add less for more of a finger paint consistency
Rosie and Jewel both love this paint, but it is especially great for baby Jewel
It has a fun texture and is safe to taste- great for tots still putting everything in their mouth
It doesn't taste very good, and is quite bland, so most kids won't taste much
With the right amount of water it makes a fantastic finger paint
Another way to PLAY: For even more fun and REALLY vibrant colors use kool-aid in place of food coloring to color your paint
This adds the element of scent and makes painting even more fun! Any time you use kool-aid in play, it smells AMAZING!
