Sensory bags are a great way for little ones still in the mouthing stage to explore play materials.  Today, I made a few Halloween sensory bags for Rosie and Jewel.  They had lots of fun playing, and I loved that there was no mess to clean up after play.  Here are the sensory bags that I made as well as some great ideas from others.

HALLOWEEN SENSORY BAGS FOR KIDS

"MELTING WITCH"

What we Used:
  • 1 zip-seal bag
  • 1 bottle of clear hair gel
  • Squishy eyeballs
  • Black yarn
  • A witch finger or nose
  • A small witch hat
  • Green food coloring
You could easily alter the materials used to make this based on what you have on hand.

Method
  • Begin by pouring the hair gel into a large zip-seal bag.
  • Add a few drops of green food coloring.
  • Add the witch parts.
  • Tightly seal the bag, and then tape over the opening with clear packaging tape.
That's it!  Then, it's time to PLAY!

Rosie especially loved this sensory bag.  She loved squishing the witch to make her green.  The more the "Squish Witch" is handled the greener she will get.

Rosie also loved squishing all the parts around to form witch faces.

Each time she was finished making the face we squished the bag and mixed up all of the parts so that she could do it again.

GOBLIN GUTS SENSORY BAG

To make this sensory bag I re-purposed some of the pasta from when we played with goblin guts the other day.

Materials
  • Zip-seal bag
  • Cooked spaghetti noodles
  • Green food coloring
  • Eye balls, spiders, snakes etc
  • Clear hair gel
  • Clear packaging tape
Method
  • Begin by mixing roughly 1 cup of cooked spaghetti noodles with several drops of green food coloring in a bowl.  Allow the noodles to dry for a few minutes.
  • Once dry,  mix the green spaghetti with the other materials in a large zip-seal bag.  Seal the bag tightly, and then secure it with clear packaging tape.
  • Then, it's time to PLAY!
