It had been a bit since we shared GLOWING play activities so we broke out the blacklight last week and have been coming up with all sorts of new play times that GLOW! Earlier this week we shared glowing rainbow slime and glowing glue for arts and sensory exploration. Today we have another fun sensory play activity to share!
GLOWING Rainbow Rice
This glowing rice is so fun and so simple to make!
~ zip-lock bags
~ Fluorescent or glow in the dark paint
~ Rubbing alcohol
Place the desired amount of rice for each color in a zip-lock bag. Add about a tablespoon of the glowing paint of your choice. Here are the paints we use. If you use fluorescent paint your rice will GLOW under a blacklight. If you use glow in the dark paint it will glow in the dark. Add roughly one tablespoon of rubbing alcohol. The rubbing alcohol helps coat the rice, watering down the paint so you need less. It also helps the rice dry faster. Seal the bag and then shake, knead, and mix until the rice is evenly coated. Rosie loves helping with this part. Then lay the rice out to dry on a cookie sheet or similar container.
That's it! Easy peasy GLOWING rainbow rice!
I placed the rice in a container with a few cups and glow sticks to add to the GLOWING fun!
Rosie loved scooping the rice and filling the cups
So colorful and fun
The best part about this rainbow rice is that it is not just fun in the dark.
It is fun with the lights on too!
Just look at how beautiful and vibrant it is!
Instead of making plain old rainbow rice why not make GLOWING rice and have the whole room aglow? Explore and play both ways or save the GLOWING aspect for an added element of fun here and there. Either way, I know we will be playing with our GLOWING rainbow rice quite often!
