Ghost Activities for Kids

August 26, 2026

It starts with a leaf. Two crooked eyes and a little mouth are all it takes.

“It’s a ghost.”

After that, they start turning up everywhere.

One hides in the rice. Another stretches between two hands. One disappears beneath a pile of bubbles.

Then a little white ghost shoots straight into the air.

Apparently, ghosts don’t have very many rules.

Ghosts are only the beginning. There are pumpkins bubbling over, monsters waiting to be made, and plenty more spooky things happening in our Halloween Activities for Kids collection.

Keep the leaves coming inside. There are pumpkins to play with, apples to investigate, and plenty more ways to follow the season in our Fall Activities for Kids collection.

Ghosts Are Everywhere

A leaf is only the beginning.

Ghost Leaves

Bring a handful of fall leaves to the table and see what the kids find in them. With white paint and a few funny faces, long leaves become tall ghosts, curled leaves become crooked ones, and the odd little leaves somehow become the favorites.

Pretty soon, every leaf looks like it might be hiding a ghost.

Ghost Lollipops

A lollipop disappears beneath a square of white tissue. A twist, a tie, two little eyes, and someone is holding up a ghost!

Soon there’s a whole handful of them, each with a different little face, ready to be tucked into treat bags or handed to friends.

A ghost you get to give away.

Ghost Paint

There is a reason these ghosts are hard to paint without touching. The white paint is thick and fluffy, leaving soft peaks and swirls that practically invite a finger through the middle.

And when the kids finally give in, there's a surprise waiting. Ghost paint should have a little chill, don't you think?

Go Ahead. Touch Them.

Ghost Rice

There is plenty hiding inside this ghostly blue rice. Kids dig through it looking for spiders, eyeballs, and other spooky little treasures and discover that the rice itself has a trick waiting for them.

Ghost Slime

This ghost refuses to keep its shape for long. Kids can squish the glowing slime into their hands, stretch it across the table, and watch it slowly slip right through their fingers.

Just when they think they've caught it, the ghost starts getting away.

Ghost Mud

This ghost starts out in pieces. Kids tear, crumble, and mix everything together until something completely different begins forming beneath their hands: soft, squishy white mud.

From there, the ghosts can be shaped, smashed, buried, rebuilt, or forgotten entirely once the mess takes over.

Ghost Foam

A fluffy white ghost is waiting in the bin, but not for long. The kids are the Ghost Busters this time, armed with everything they need to make it fizz, bubble, and disappear.

One ghost disappears, and the hunt for the next one begins.

These Ghosts Don’t Sit Still

Flying Ghosts

These little ghosts aren't made to hang around. Kids line them up at one end of the table, grab their straws, and see who can send a ghost flying toward the other side.

One breath, and the ghost race is on.

Ghost Eggs

It looks like an egg, but something important is missing. Kids can pick it up, gently squeeze it, and even see through the strange rubbery surface where the shell used to be.

Then comes the question every time.

“Can we bounce it?”

Ghost Rockets

Some ghosts haunt houses. These little ghosts would rather fly.

Kids send them shooting high into the air, then race after them when they come back down. Before long, there are ghosts popping up all over the yard.

The only question is where the next one will land.

Let Them Loose

Bubbling Boo Bombs

How big can a ghost get before it bursts?

Kids get to find out with these bubbling Boo Bombs. The ghost slowly swells while everyone watches until one very satisfying POP! sends the bubbly mess spilling out.

Then somebody wants to make a bigger Boo.

Smoking Boo Bombs

When kids toss these boo bombs, a ghost flies out and disappears into the air.

POOF!

A hand reaches down for the next one.

Keep Looking

Eventually, the ghosts begin to disappear. The last one comes back down, the messes get cleaned up, and all those spooky little experiments find their way to an end.

At least, until someone spots a leaf on the ground that looks like it could use two eyes and a mouth.

“Look.”
