Kool-aid makes a great dye and can be used to vibrantly color all sorts of things. Today, we used it to make colorful paints that are especially great for babies and toddlers. Read on for the easy tutorial.

Kool-aid Finger Paint Recipe

3 cups of water
2 cups of flour
1/2 cup of salt
3 tbsp of oil

You will also need:

Kool-aid packets
Cups/bowls
Spoons

Method

Begin by mixing the flour and salt together in a large bowl.
Add the oil and water and mix well.
Use a whisk or similar to break up any clumps, continuing to mix until smooth.

Once smooth divide your base finger paint into small bowls or cups. You will want to use one cup for each paint color that you wish to make.
Next, it is time to add the kool-aid!

Have kids sprinkle kool-aid powder into each paint cup and mix until combined.
I used roughly 1/2 a packet of Kool-aid for each paint color, and that was more than enough to give us super vibrant colors.

Rosie and Jewel were so happy with how our homemade paint turned out! The Kool-aid produced super vibrant colors that smelled absolutely amazing!

Extend the Fun

Use Kool-aid to make play dough.
Make bubbles using Kool-aid.
Make rock candy using Kool-aid.
Dye pasta noodles with kool-aid.

Tips & Storage:

Store leftover paint in air-tight containers in the fridge, and it can be used for up to 1 week.
Kool-aid can be bought in a variety of colors and flavors on Amazon here.
Kool-aid can stain. I recommend having children wear a smock or play clothing during this activity.
