Halloween Rock Painting

A child turns one smooth rock sideways and pauses. There is a mouth hiding in the edge. A little white paint makes a ghost. One round stone becomes an eyeball. The lumpy green one was clearly a stitched monster all along.   Halloween rock painting begins as a craft and quickly becomes a table full of characters. Children turn, study, paint, and rename each stone. There is no template to keep up with and no reason for two monsters to match. For more playful ways to celebrate, visit our Halloween Activities for Kids collection. Also check out our  Fall Activities for Kids collection to find more ideas for autumn afternoons.

Halloween Hands

A little hand becomes a smiling pumpkin. The next one turns into a friendly vampire. She looks across the table at the orange fingers, pointy teeth, and crooked smiles, then reaches for another piece of paper. “Can mine be a ghost?” Soon, another little hand is spread across the page.

Ghost Rice

The blue rice already looks a little ghostly beneath the blacklight. Little hands hover over the bin, moving from one spot to another. Then they reach in. “It’s COLD!” Hands pull back, then go straight in again. This time they dig deeper, burying their fingers in the glowing rice before lifting two chilly handfuls into the air. Blue grains spill between their fingers and scatter back into the bin. “You have to touch it!” If your little ghosts are ready for more Halloween fun, there is plenty more waiting in our Halloween Activities for Kids collection. And for more things to mix, make, scoop, and explore, visit our Play Recipes for Kids collection.

Ghost Paint

She loads her brush with Ghost Paint and sweeps a big white ghost across the middle of the paper. The paint doesn't spread very far. It piles up instead, leaving thick swirls behind. She adds more, pulling the paint into a wobbly ghost with a crooked little tail. Her finger brushes across one of the ridges. “It's cold.” Soon there are ghosts all over the paper. Some are tall and skinny; others are little blobs with trailing bottoms, and none of them look quite the same. Right now, they're wet, chilly, and thick with paint. But these ghosts aren't finished changing yet. If your kids are ready for more Halloween fun, there are plenty more ghosts, pumpkins, and spooky surprises waiting in our Halloween Activities for Kids collection.   Some Halloween crafts stay at home.  These little ghosts get to travel. Children carefully wrap each lollipop, tie tiny bows, and draw funny little ghost faces before proudly lining them up on the table. Soon they're deciding which ghost should go to Grandma, which one belongs to a favorite teacher, and which silly ghost might make a best friend smile. That's what makes these Ghost Lollipops so memorable. Children aren't simply making a Halloween treat. They're creating something they're excited to share with the people they care about. Ghost Slime

Children pull the cold slime apart as slowly as they can.  It stretches.  It glows.  It feels eerily cold in their hands.  Then, someone pinches the top into a little point, presses in two googly eyes, and proclaims, "It's a ghost!" It isn't long before the table is filled with wonderfully wobbly characters that slowly stretch, droop, and melt before children excitedly shape them all over again. That's what makes Ghost Slime so unforgettable. Children don't just stretch and squish the slime. They bring friendly little ghosts to life, watch them slowly disappear, and then create another Casper all over again. Whether you're looking for a Halloween slime recipe, a ghost-themed sensory activity, or a playful way to combine creativity with hands-on fun, this chilly Ghost Slime invites children to build, stretch, and imagine one ghost at a time. Halloween Cardboard Tube Crafts

One cardboard tube becomes a ghost.  The next becomes a monster.  Then, someone decides it should have vampire teeth instead. Soon the table fills with witches, pumpkins, bats, goblins, silly monsters, and spooky little creatures that no one planned to make when the afternoon began. That is what makes these Halloween Cardboard Tube Crafts so unforgettable. Children rarely stop after creating one character. Every finished craft sparks another idea until ordinary cardboard tubes become an entire Halloween world of their own. Whether you are looking for an easy Halloween craft, a creative way to reuse cardboard tubes, or an afternoon project that keeps children happily creating, these Halloween Cardboard Tube Crafts offer one simple invitation: Set out the supplies and see who appears.

Erupting Pumpkins

A child slowly begins pouring vinegar into a pumpkin.  Everyone takes a step backward.  Then, another. Colorful bubbles come rushing over the top. That moment is all it takes. Soon, children are wondering what will happen if they add more vinegar, try a different pumpkin, or make it erupt all over again. This erupting pumpkin experiment combines one of fall's favorite traditions with a classic baking soda and vinegar reaction children never seem to outgrow. Whether you're exploring pumpkin science at home, planning a fall STEM activity, or looking for an unforgettable Halloween experiment, this fizzy pumpkin eruption is one kids will ask to repeat again and again. How to Make Carved Pumpkins Last Longer

The first thing they notice is usually his smile. It looked just right when everyone stepped back from carving, but a few days later one corner is beginning to droop. His lid doesn't sit quite the same way. Someone presses a finger near his mouth and asks the question you already know is coming. "Will Jack make it to Halloween?" Once children have scooped the seeds, argued for one more tooth, and watched Jack appear one crooked cut at a time, they tend to keep an eye on him. They notice when his lid starts sinking, when the edges around his mouth begin to curl, or when something about him simply looks different than it did yesterday. A few simple tricks before and after carving can slow those changes and help Jack stay fresh longer. He won't last forever, but with a little care, Jack just might make it to Halloween. If your child is already wondering what else a pumpkin can do, our Pumpkin Activities for Kids collection is filled with more ways to play, create, and...

Cardboard Tube Mummies

The first cardboard tube becomes a mummy. The next gets crooked googly eyes. Then, someone decides their mummy needs extra bandages.  Before long, the table is filled with funny little Halloween characters waiting for names, voices, and their next adventure.  Some are wrapped neatly. Others disappear beneath layers and layers of gauze until only two wiggly eyes peek through. Children compare their creations, invent silly stories, and proudly line their mummies up for a Halloween parade. That's what makes these Cardboard Tube Mummies so memorable. They aren't just another Halloween craft. They become tiny characters that children imagine, name, play with, and proudly display long after the glue has dried. Whether you're looking for an easy Halloween craft for preschoolers, a creative way to reuse cardboard tubes, or a simple afternoon activity filled with imagination, these Cardboard Tube Mummies invite children to turn everyday recyclables into unforgettable Halloween fu...

Bubbling Boo Bombs

Children place the little ghost on the ground.  Then, everyone takes a few careful steps backward. Nothing happens.  Someone giggles.  Another child whispers,  "Is it going to pop?" Every pair of eyes stays locked on the bag as it slowly begins to puff up. The ghost grows bigger... and bigger... until suddenly... POP! Foamy orange bubbles burst across the ground, and children erupt into laughter before immediately asking if they can make another one. That's what makes these Bubbling Boo and Pumpkin Bombs so unforgettable. Children aren't simply watching a science experiment. Magic Jack Experiment

Every few seconds, someone looks at Jack again.  They don't want to miss the very first sign that he's starting to wake up. His smiling face is already waiting on the balloon as everyone gathers a little closer around the bottle. No one blows into it or stretches it open. They simply pour in the baking soda and watch, hoping this will be the moment something begins to change. At first, Jack doesn't move. Then, almost too slowly to notice, he begins to grow. His smiling face rises a little higher, then a little higher again, until the flat balloon they were holding just moments before has become a round jack-o'-lantern looking right back at them. That's usually when the smiles begin. "We woke up Jack!" Children don't see a balloon filling with air.  They see Jack coming to life. If your child loves playful science that feels a little like magic, explore our Baking Soda and Vinegar Activities collection for colorful reactions, bubbling discoveries, and ...

What begins as a pile of ordinary ingredients slowly transforms into the softest, squishiest Ghost Mud imaginable. Then the real fun begins. The shell slowly disappears. The egg becomes soft and ghostly. And when the lights go out, it begins to glow. That is what makes this Ghost Eggs experiment so unforgettable. Children return again and again to check the jar, wondering what has changed since the last time they looked. Halloween Activities for Kids

Halloween has a way of beginning long before October 31st. It starts the first time children spot a pumpkin on a neighbor's porch. They slow down to admire Halloween decorations, wonder whether the skeleton by the mailbox is real, and ask how many more days are left until trick-or-treating. With every walk, every storefront, and every front yard, the excitement grows a little more. By the time Halloween finally arrives, they've already been celebrating for weeks. The wonderful thing is that you don't need an elaborate plan to keep that excitement going. Sometimes one bubbling pumpkin before dinner is enough. Sometimes it's a bowl of ghostly slime, a silly Halloween craft, or a playful science experiment that turns an ordinary afternoon into something children talk about for the rest of the season. Those are the moments that become part of childhood. The best Halloween afternoons rarely begin with big plans. They usually begin with one little idea. Inside this collection...
